Baseball Is Back

The Brewers opened up Spring training today as pitchers and catchers reported to Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, Arizona. Here is what to watch for during the Brewers spring training.

The expectations have increased for the Brewers after last year's .500 season. They are hoping to be in the upper-half of the NL Central this year, possibly sneaking in to the playoffs as a wild card team.

Ben Sheets update: he's at camp and ready to show that his torn back muscle from last year is fully healed. A healthy Sheets will anchor the Brewers pitching staff and should have 16-18 wins and 225+ strikeouts.

The Greatest Love

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." -- Romans 8:38-39

Happy Valentine's Day.

Introducing the Motorola SLVR

A new Motorola phone debuted this work for Cingular and I'm willing to say that it's better than the RAZR.

It's a candy-bar phone (i.e. not a flip phone), it's slim, and it comes with iTunes. Thanks to Apple, you can only have 512 MB (~100 songs) worth of iTunes, but it's still a nice feature.

I had the opportunity to play around with a prototype phone for a few weeks and I was impressed with the phone's feel and performance. The camera is nothing special, but who uses their cellphone camera anyway? The SLVR also has Bluetooth loaded with the main services, WAP 2.0 (for Web browsing), and J2ME MIDP 2.0 (for games).

The starting price for the SLVR is $199 at Cingular with a two-year contract, but I expect that to be cut in half with in 4-5 months. Within 6-8 months, the SLVR will be available for free with special deals.
