Watch Game Seven...You'll Thank Me Later

For all you NBA haters out there, I invite you watch the first Game 7 in the NBA finals in over a decade on Thursday night at 8 PM on ABC. If you haven't been following, the Spurs and Pistons are locked up at 3 games apiece after a classic Game 5 (one of the top 10 basketball games I've ever seen) and a surprise Piston win in San Antonio last night.

Worth tracking during Game 7 is how Tim Duncan -- who I argue is the best player in the world -- responds after some subpar 4th quarter performances. For a great read about Duncan's failures, check this out.

Hello, My Name Is....

Wednesday night, my parents and sister, Rachel, were in town for my sister's orientation at U of I. Rachel registered for classes, got a tour of her dorm, and convinced herself that she's ready for college.

Anyway, I went to dinner that night to Chili's with my parents and sister. When we arrived there, my sister and mom noticed that my dad still had his nametag on from the orientation events. They kindly encouraged him to remove it, suggesting that the nametag wasn't exactly fashionable. My dad smiled back at them and said, "I kind of like it." Then he proceeded to keep his nametag throughout our entire dinner at Chili's.

At first, I was kind of like, "OK, Dad, you're kind of lame." But then it hit me. This wasn't about my dad's fashion sense -- he knew it wasn't the coolest thing to wear. This was a statement. My dad was saying, "I'm 53 years old and confident in who I am. I don't care if I'm wearing a stupid nametag."

Well done, Dad. Well done. By the end of the meal, I was loving that nametag.

Mr. Jeter, I'm Coming to Town

Check out this article that deifies Derek Jeter once again.

Thankfully, I will have the opportunity to see Derek Jeter in person next Monday and Tuesday when I attend two Brewers-Yankees games at Miller Park. I would like suggestions for signs that I can make to bring to the game to insult Derek Jeter. Here's what I got so far:

- "Derek Jeter is the most overrated human being in the history of the world"
- "Hey A-Rod, sorry that Jeter's a baby; you should be playing shortstop"
- "Hey Jeter, I'd take JJ Hardy over you anyday of the week"
