Study: Cell phones increase crash risk

This just in : cell phones increase the likelihood of a driver getting into an automobile crash.

Great study. My four-year-old cousin could have figured out that using a distracting device while driving would increase the likelihood of getting in an accident. But you know what topped my list of crash risks? Check this out:

Top Crask Risk Factors
----------------------
1) Stupid people
2) Smart people who drive stupid
3) Smart people who drive smart but get too close to stupid people
4) Smart people who drive smart but have stupid people as passengers
5) Cell phones

Actually, there is a real list of contributing causes to accidents. I'm pretty sure that the top 5 things people do that get them into accidents are:

1) eat and drive
2) play with the radio
3) talk to someone in the car
4) I don't remember
5) talk on cell phone

Now, this list is just a vague recollection I have of some list that some guy told me... but it still begs the question: why are we so transfixed on cell phone use and not other distracting habits? Maybe the reason is simple: it's new, and people get freaked out over new things.

OR....

driving while changing the station from one crappy pop song to the next is actually much quicker and much lest distracting than talking to your pal about how things went over the weekend.

Nine times out of ten, when I see a driver driving stupid, a cell phone is involved in someway.

This is a serious annoyance of mine. If you need to talk to someone THAT bad, you should have called them before you left the house. What topic is SO important that a person has to take it as they're speeding down the interstate?

Same thing goes for yellow lights. Need to fly through them? Shoulda left the house 4 seconds earlier.

I feel better now.
