The Day After

You live by the 3. You die by the 3. And the Illini died last night (still an amazing season!). Last night's Illini loss came in 3rd for my all-time sports heartbreaks:

1) Packers loss to the Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII
2) Bucks loss to the 76ers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 2001
3) Illini loss to North Carolina in 2005 NCAA Championship
4) Wisconsin's loss to Michigan State in 2000 NCAA Final Four
5) Every Brewers season for the past 13 years

True, true. We still had a shot at the end, and it came down to a three that would of put us ahead, but missed. Fitting, really.

However, I believe the refs called a horribly inconsistent game. This is one of the weakness of the Tourney; in a playoff series, the refs can cost you a game, but not the whole series (generally).

Shaq couldn't get away with the power moves May was using.

That's the NCAA, erratic, unpredictable, and unfulfilling. The Tar Heels are not the best college team. But they are the champs. Go Bulls.

I just really felt like a different Illinois team showed up. What I saw was players standing around until the shot clock wound down and jacking the three point shot. I felt like illinois really screened for the open shot, during the season, making that extra pass to knock down shots. I was just really disappointed in our performance. great season, poor championship game. I did feel bad for james augustine. the refs just showed him the door in the most important game of his career.

#5...Is it still heartbreak when you expect it to happen?

My Top 5 disappointments (Cleveland sports fan):
1. Indians blow Game 7 of the 1997 World Series.
2. Indians blow the 1995 World Series in 6 games.
3. The Shot.
4. Browns lose to the Broncos in the AFC Championship in 1986,1987, and 1989.
5. Illinois loses to UNC.

I dare anyone to beat that.
